3 Mattress Myths Debunked

When it comes to mattresses, there are many myths and theories that have been passed from generations that have proven to be false. Once you start shopping for a new mattress, you’ll begin to realize that much of what you heard and thought you knew may not have been accurate. Here are three mattress myths that we’ve debunked.

Myth 1- You need a pillow-top mattress to get you the best comfort

This is not true. While a pillow-top mattress may be comfortable, many others are just as comfortable. A pillow-top adds to the plushness of the mattress, but this can be obtained from many different types of mattresses.

Myth 2- A hard mattress is best for a bad back.

Many individuals assume that a firmer mattress provides more support. To some extent, this may be true, but not when you consider how your spine curves from your neck to your coccyx. As you become older, your spine naturally curves into an ‘S’ form. From your shoulder to your hips, the thoracic curve slopes inwards.

The mattress will support your shoulders, hips, and buttocks, but not your spine in the middle. This will cause your back to slump, putting pressure on your vertebrae and causing back discomfort. If you consistently sleep on your side, then a hard mattress may be best for you.

Myth 3- Mattresses cannot be cleaned

Mattresses are thought to be impossible to clean by many people. This may have been true in the old days, but not so anymore. Mattresses may be cleaned, and how they are cleaned varies depending on the type of mattress. A standard vacuum can be used on any mattress. This eliminates any loose debris and dust from your mattress, keeping it clean and safe to sleep on. If you let the mattress dry before using it, a steam cleaner is also a fantastic way to clean it.

When it comes to mattress buying, the more information you have, the better equipped you will be to make an informed purchase and leave satisfied. Dont step into believing mattress myths – make your own mind up and study your options. I would advise going into your local Sleep Station and lying on a bed in person.
